Y-Development è un'associazione fondata da YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association)‚ un network nato nel 1984 e diffuso in molti paesi del mondo. In
Thailandia YD fornisce supporto agli artigiani delle comunità rurali per
progettare e commercializzare i loro prodotti. Nei villaggi vengono
realizzati corsi di formazione per sviluppare le capacità produttive a
partire dalle tradizioni e dalle materie prime disponibili. I prodotti
realizzati vengono poi venduti sul mercato locale o attraverso i canali
del commercio equo.
I profitti delle vendite‚ oltre a pagare gli artigiani‚ vengono utilizzati per le iniziative di YMCA a sostegno delle comunità.
Attualmente YD raccoglie 30 gruppi di produttori nel nord della Thailandia e garantisce lavoro a oltre 500 persone.
